TOUR-HUB
Digital Enhancement of Cultural Heritage and Tourism
TOUR-HUB is a cross-border project focused on enhancing cultural heritage and sustainable tourism through the application of digital technologies, innovative approaches, and active involvement of local communities. The project connects cultural heritage, tourism, and digitalization with the aim of creating modern, attractive, and accessible tourism experiences across the cross-border region.
The project is implemented as a joint initiative between Greece and North Macedonia, covering several municipalities with significant cultural, historical, and natural potential. In Greece, activities are carried out in the municipalities of Almopia and Edessa, while in North Macedonia the project covers the municipality of Novaci. Through this territorial linkage, the project creates a unified tourism area that goes beyond administrative borders and highlights the shared European value of cultural heritage.
The project is based on the idea that cultural and natural heritage represent a significant yet underutilized resource for local economic development. Through TOUR-HUB, these resources are transformed into dynamic tourism products that respond to the expectations of modern visitors and increase the visibility of the region as a joint tourism destination.
A key focus of the project is the digitalization of cultural content and tourism sites through interactive tools, virtual and augmented reality applications, digital guides, and multimedia exhibitions. This approach provides visitors with richer and more informative experiences, while local communities gain new opportunities for promotion and sustainable development.
At the same time, TOUR-HUB works on strengthening the capacities of local tourism stakeholders through training activities, workshops, and cross-border knowledge exchange. Particular emphasis is placed on small and medium-sized tourism businesses, cultural organizations, and young people, who are recognized as key drivers of future sustainable tourism development.
The project promotes cross-border cooperation and joint storytelling related to the history, culture, and natural assets of the region. In this way, a shared tourism identity is created, connecting municipalities and communities from both countries into a single, recognizable tourism offering.
By combining infrastructure-related interventions with capacity-building and “soft” activities, TOUR-HUB contributes to the development of a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem. The project lays the foundation for long-term tourism growth, increased visitor numbers, and improved quality of life for local communities.
TOUR-HUB represents a step forward towards modern, digitally supported, and sustainable tourism, where cultural heritage is not only a reflection of the past, but an active resource for the future.
